Esporte Clube Vitória has a reason to celebrate: Jordy Caicedo, former player of Leão da Barra, made his World Cup debut with the Ecuadorian national team. The striker came on in the final minutes of the goalless draw between Ecuador and Curaçao, valid for the second round of Group E of the 2026 World Cup. Caicedo was called up by coach Sebastian Beccacece and played for just one minute. Looking at the player's career, Jordy Caicedo was signed by Vitória in 2019 for R$ 3 million and played 44 games for Rubro-Negro, scoring nine goals. The Ecuadorian couldn't establish himself in the Bahian team and ended his last season at the club injured. In early 2021, the striker requested contract termination with Fifa. Vitória was condemned to pay around R$ 4 million to the player, amidst the severe financial crisis faced by the club at that time. Jordy Caicedo's World Cup debut is an important milestone in the striker's career. Ecuador is in third place in Group E, with only one point won, and needs to beat Germany to keep dreaming of a spot in the round of 16. The match will be played this Thursday, 25, at 17h. But Caicedo's short participation was enough for the former Leão da Barra player to record his first appearance in a World Cup. So the expectation now is for Ecuador's next match. The team needs a win to keep their chances of qualification alive. And Jordy Caicedo may have an important role in that.
