Esporte Clube Vitória confirmed on Thursday (July 9) the arrival of Argentine centre‑back Emanuel Brítez, a contract running until June 2027, strengthening the defence for the Serie A run‑in.
How did the deal materialise?
Negotiations began in January, but coach Thiago Carpini asked the player to stay at Ceará, blocking the move. When Brítez fell out with Fortaleza’s management, his contract was terminated and he became available for the Rubro‑Negro. The club posted the news on its official channels, highlighting the player’s stay until 2027.
What experience does the new defender bring?
At 34, Brítez entered Brazilian football in 2022 with Fortaleza, playing two seasons before ending his contract. In Argentina he featured for Independiente, Rosario Central, Defensa y Justicia and Unión, amassing over 300 professional matches. That résumé adds leadership and tactical know‑how to Vitória’s back line.
What does this mean for Vitória’s campaign?
The signing joins recent arrivals of Walace, a midfielder, and Fabiano, a right‑back, widening coach Carpini’s options. As the season progresses, the board seeks defensive stability to improve the club’s league standing. Brítez arrives when the side needs to cut conceded goals and secure points in crucial fixtures.
When is the player expected to debut?
He should be available for the next Serie A match, against Atlético Mineiro on July 14. Carpini plans to integrate him in this week’s training, testing his partnership with captain Júnior Santos. If all goes well, the Argentine defender could prove decisive against the league’s top rivals.
